Privacy policy

Who we are

MySkyDex is a personal aircraft-spotting app and website at myskydex.co.uk (including the Android / Fire app that loads that site). Contact: tower@myskydex.co.uk.

What we collect

• Account — display name, email address, and a password hash (or Google sign-in identifiers if you use Google).
• Home / sky settings — observation point name, coordinates, watch and spot radii, and related preferences you save.
• Optional device location — only when you allow location (for example “Out and about” on Sky Now). We use it to watch nearby sky while you travel.
• Spotting activity — aircraft you collect, hear, miss (Ghosts), missions, XP, favourites, and similar in-app progress.
• Alerts — whether you enable in-app, email, web push, or app notifications; push subscription endpoints and keys where supported.
• Technical — session cookies, approximate last-seen time, and basic server logs needed to run and secure the service (for example IP address in hosting logs).
• Optional receivers — if you connect a home ADS-B receiver, setup codes and feed metadata needed to accept your data.

How we use it

• To provide the game: live sky, Hangar, Ghosts, missions, and your profile.
• To send overhead / claimable alerts you asked for (in-app, email, web push, or the Android app’s notifications).
• To sign you in and keep your session secure.
• To improve reliability and fix problems (including using flight and aircraft lookup services).

We do not sell your personal data.

Cookies and local storage

We use essential cookies for sign-in and session (for example login state). The browser or app may also store local preferences (such as in-app alert settings) and offline claim queues. These are needed for the product to work.

Third parties

Depending on features you use, data may be processed by:

• Hosting and email — IONOS (website, database, and outbound mail such as alert emails).
• Google — if you choose Google sign-in (OAuth), and/or if you use the Android app with Google Play Games (achievements and leaderboards mirrored from your MySkyDex progress).
• Google Play — if you install MySkyDex from Google Play, Google’s Play policies apply to install, billing (if any), and Play Games profile data.
• Flight / aircraft data providers — for example OpenSky and public aircraft image or metadata sources used to enrich what you see.
• Amazon — if you install MySkyDex from the Amazon Appstore, Amazon’s own policies apply to Appstore account, install, and device services.
• Push services — browser or platform push infrastructure where you enable web push or system notifications.

Children

MySkyDex is designed for families and young aviation fans. If a child uses the app, a parent or guardian should help create the account and manage location, notifications, and email settings. Contact us if you need an account removed.

Retention and security

We keep account and spotting data while your account remains active so your Hangar and progress persist. Hosting is over HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed, not in plain text. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; we take reasonable steps appropriate to a small personal service.

Your choices

• Update Home, radii, and alert preferences in Profile.
• Turn location or notifications off in device or browser settings.
• Email tower@myskydex.co.uk to ask for account deletion or a copy of your data. We will respond within a reasonable time.

Changes

We may update this policy as MySkyDex changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
